Frankfurt is Germany's main city of finance. It terms of global financial cities, it is rather small, at under 700,000. But it sits in a wider region of over 2,5 million people. It is a prosperous city with a very dramatic skyline. New office buildings and shops are constantly being added in the city centre. Frankfurt sits on the Main river and its waterfront is one of its strongest features. To read more about my thoughts on the city's waterfront, click here.
The city's size, wealth and density means that many residents enjoy a high quality of life. Transport is efficient and well-organised and the city's trams, U-bahn (Stadtbahn) and S-Bahn regional trains cover most of the city and the metropolitan area.
